This is a painting of my Amazon Wish List, initially undertaken as an alternative approach to still life painting, wherein the items aren't "real" yet because I don't own them and they simply operate in the realm of desire. However I quickly realized that this was more of a self portrait than a still life as I was revealing all the mundane/embarrassing shit I wanted to buy which becomes a visual representation of my wants and needs. Eventually all of our private shopping carts and wishlists transfer to the public spectacle of consumption and display at one point or another; I'm interested in this moment of vulnerability wherein we can be witnessed as simply the things we want but don’t yet have for one reason or another.
